These pads are designed to clean the .223Cal/5.56mm/.300blk star chamber,the locking lugs recess on the barrel extension (bolt locking area) and the face of the chamber..

It's better to apply some oil/solvent to soften the gunk/carbon on the chamber, then use the pads to clean,the pads absorb and holds cleaning solvent well..
